Beloved 'Friends' Actor Matthew Perry Passes Away at His Los Angeles Residence.

Matthew Perry, the renowned actor celebrated for his leading role in the 1990s' iconic American TV sitcom 'Friends,' has sadly passed away at the age of 54.

 According to reports from Reuters citing the LA Times, the actor was found deceased in a hot tub at his residence in the Los Angeles area.

 Law enforcement sources, as per the LA Times, indicated that first responders encountered Perry unresponsive in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home and were unable to resuscitate him.




The initial reports, originating from The LA Times and TMZ, also noted that anonymous sources indicated there were no indications of 'foul play' in Matthew Perry's passing.

Perry portrayed the character of Chandler Bing in the popular 1990s sitcom 'Friends,' which enjoyed a successful ten-season run from 1994 to 2004.

 He starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow in this iconic television series.

Matthew Perry's remarkable performance in the sitcom earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002, a testament to his talent and contribution to the show's success.


The series 'Friends' remains one of television's greatest hits and continues to maintain its immense popularity. In addition to his role in 'Friends,' Matthew Perry appeared in other notable television series, including 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' in 2006, 'Go On' in 2012, and 'The Odd Couple' in 2015. 


The versatile American-Canadian actor earned two Emmy nominations in 2003 and 2004 for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Joe Quincy in 'The West Wing.

' Perry's talent also extended to the silver screen, where he featured in films like "Fools Rush In" and "The Whole Nine Yards."

Born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Perry shared his personal journey in his 2022 memoir, titled 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.' In this book, he candidly discussed his battle with addiction, stating, "'Friends' was huge. I couldn't jeopardize that. I loved the script. 

I loved my co-actors. I loved the scripts. I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addictions, which only added to my sense of shame." He further revealed, "I had a secret, and no one could know."




Matthew Perry's memoir provides a glimpse into the immense pressure and personal struggles he faced during his time on 'Friends.' 

He wrote about the intense need for laughter from the live audience, saying, "I felt like I was gonna die if the live audience didn't laugh, and that's not healthy for sure.

But I could sometimes say a line, and the audience wouldn't laugh, and I would sweat and sometimes go into convulsions." The pressure to deliver humor and the fear of not meeting audience expectations took a toll on him.

Perry also shared a poignant moment in the memoir when Jennifer Aniston, who portrayed Rachel Green on the show, confronted him about his struggles with alcohol. 

He recalled her telling him, "I know you're drinking," and she added, "We can smell it." Perry described this interaction as "kind of weird but loving," and the realization that his issue was apparent to others had a profound impact on him.
