At just 19 years old, Rishabh Pant has already experienced the highs and lows of a cricketing career. Hailing from Delhi, Pant rose to prominence during the 2016 Under-19 World Cup with his explosive batting performances, including a blistering 75 off just 24 balls against Nepal and a century against Namibia. Despite India falling short in the final, Pant's emergence was a major takeaway from the tournament.


Following his impressive displays, Pant was swiftly picked up by the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL auctions. He quickly became a mainstay in Delhi's domestic setup and even captained the team in the one-day format. Pant made his international debut for India in a Twenty20 match against England in Bengaluru.

Although his second Ranji season didn't match the success of his first, Pant showcased his talent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by smashing the second-fastest century in T20 history, off just 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh. Despite a disappointing comeback match, Pant's potential was evident, although his strike rate in international T20 matches remained below par for a power hitter.


Pant's IPL journey mirrored his rise, with his explosive batting style perfectly suited to the demands of the format. Despite a challenging start to his IPL career, Pant flourished in subsequent seasons, becoming a vital player for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Tragedy struck before the 2017 IPL season when Pant's father passed away, but he showed remarkable resilience by returning to the field and delivering impressive performances.

Retained for subsequent IPL seasons, Pant continued to showcase his batting prowess, often single-handedly dismantling opposition bowling attacks. His performances garnered attention, with many tipping him for international success. Pant's inclusion in India's 2019 World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan provided him with an opportunity to make his mark on the global stage.


Heading into the World Cup, Pant's aggressive batting style and ability to unsettle opposition bowlers made him a valuable asset. Although his approach didn't always pay off, his recent form for Delhi Daredevils and experience in English conditions from Test cricket provided reasons for optimism. With pundits advocating for his inclusion, Pant aimed to seize his chance and contribute to India's World Cup campaign.
